MATH PLACEMENT TEST

The Mathematics Placement Test at USCL is now administered online.

This test must be completed prior to your chosen Orientation date to ensure the completion of your course registration. The test will take ninety minutes. It must be completed on an individual basis. Calculators are not allowed. We recommend that all students take the practice test prior to the actual test.

First, go to http://usclancaster.sc.edu/IT/usernames.htm for instructions concerning how to use the University’s VIP system to obtain your user id and password. These will be needed when you access the test at https://assess.math.sc.edu .   Questions regarding your University of South Carolina username and password should be directed to the USC helpdesk in Columbia at (803) 777-1800.

The exam you take depends on the mathematics requirements for your major. To determine which test to take for your major, go to the "List of Majors and Math Placement Tests" at https://assess.math.sc.edu/public/MPTbyMajor.pdf.

Once you have completed the test, you will be instructed to print out a score sheet. *Bring this with you to your chosen Orientation session.*   Remember that this test is not a reflection of your ability; it is simply used to place you into the appropriate mathematics course at USCL.

Should you have any questions concerning the test, contact Dr. Noni Bohonak (nbohonak@mailbox.sc.edu) at USC Lancaster.
